Spring Time In The Missouri Ozarks
Its Spring, well almost but it feels like that where I live in Central Missouri, Johnny Jump Ups are awake, the Crocus are in full bloom and those spring rains are here.
We are in our annual "lets make the garden bigger this year" phase. Whew!! and why did I want to do that again?? Oh right...I grew up on a farm in Wisconsin and love being able to grow my own veggies. Such a change from big city life (West Coast my last stop)
To save actual garden "earth space" I plant my tomatos in large 20 gallon tubs I got at a farm store. I put 4 plants in a container, line my containers up in a row and then stake them using hog wire as the support. I can walk between the rows with ease and harvesting is a breeze. AND I can put the containers anywhere in my yard I want to (full sun, of course)
As you would imagine the containers are quite heavy when filled with dirt. I fill the bottom of the tub with about 10 or15 aluminum soda cans. The plant drains well and the container is much lighter to transport to the growing area instead of one with rocks in the bottom
More garden tips later......Connie
